Edmunds analysts anticipate that 30 EVs from 21 brands will become available for sale this year, compared to 17 vehicles from 12 brands in 2020. Notably, this will be the first year that these offerings represent all three major vehicle categories: Consumers will have the choice among 11 cars, 13 SUVs, and 6 electric trucks in 2021, whereas only 10 cars and seven SUVs were available last year. In June 2020, Les Tlustos, Consumer Services Director for Northwest Rural PPD, began sending direct mailing letters to residential consumers explaining how they could ride, drive or just come out and kick the tires of an electric vehicle (EV). Drawing people in further, Northwest Rural offered participants a $10 bill credit and entered them into a drawing for an electric lawnmower. As electric vehicles (EV) are expanding into the mainstream, so too are the choices for new electric models including electric trucks. And while there aren’t any on the road right now, several manufacturers expect to be selling these as early as 2021.

The Colorado Energy Office recently released an EV Plan to show how Colorado can have nearly 1 million EVs on the road by 2030. Colorado’s electric co-ops have implemented new programs to encourage the adoption of EVs in co-op territory, such as publicly available electric charging stations and ride and drive programs.
